If you place wood ash around the base portion of a shrub seedling or tree, you will ward off insect pests. Natural materials and plants can be just as effective as chemical pesticides at keeping unwanted visitors out of your garden!
Spread a little bit of organic mulch, around two inches worth, in and about each vegetable plant. The mulch will help keep the soil moist for longer periods of time. It will also dramatically decrease weed growth. That helps you save a great deal of effort and time in weed eradication.
Don’t use pesticides that aren’t meant to kill specific types of garden pests. In addition, these pesticides destroy the good insects which eat pests. Beneficial bugs are usually several orders more sensitive to the things you spray than the pests you are trying to kill, so you might wind up dropping the good bug populace and open the door to pest population growth. When this happens, you will spray another round of pesticides to get rid of the pests, thus creating a never-ending cycle for yourself.
